The year 5768 on the Jewish calendar starts in a few hours. I wanted to be done with the manuscript for my second novel, Two Graves, before the end of 5767. Made it! I sent it to my agent last Friday.
Next, I wanted to get going on Book #3, which will be a sequel to Dot Dead, with the New Year. I thought and thought about what it should be about and was getting nowhere. So yesterday I drove over backroads to Bean Hollow State Beach, figuring I would find inspiration there. And so it proved. After about 90 minutes of sitting on the rocks, I had notes enough on where the book would go to start writing. It was too bright to see my laptop screen at the beach. So, I drove north to the Miramar Beach Restaurant and sat in the bar quaffing beer, sipping tea, watching the waves, and getting the first 1000 words done.
What am I doing now? Well, for the first time in at least 19 years -- since last time my wife had an out-of-the-house job -- I'm cooking a holiday dinner on my own. So far, I've made noodle kugel, apple pie, and honey cake (the top of the latter is a little well done). Got to get back and get the main course in the oven.
May you all have a 5768 of happiness, health, and peace!
Sounds delicious - ENJOY!
